Son’s First Glasses

After our visit to the optometrist in Bentleigh, I knew the next step was getting Jack his first pair of glasses. He had been so brave during his eye test, but I could tell he was still a bit nervous about wearing glasses every day. I wanted to make this experience as positive as possible for him, so I decided to involve him in every step of the process.

We headed back to the optometrist in Bentleigh to pick out his glasses. The moment we walked in, the staff greeted us warmly, recognising Jack from his recent visit. They had a wonderful selection of frames, with plenty of options designed specifically for kids—bright colours, fun patterns, and durable materials that could withstand the rough and tumble of a child’s day.

Jack’s eyes lit up when he saw all the choices in front of him. I encouraged him to take his time and try on as many pairs as he liked. It was important to me that he felt confident and happy with his new glasses. After all, he was the one who would be wearing them every day.

The staff at the clinic were incredibly patient, guiding Jack through the process of trying on different frames. They explained how the glasses should fit—snug but not too tight, and sitting comfortably on his nose. They made sure he understood that the frames shouldn’t slide down his face or pinch behind his ears.

Jack was very particular about his choice, and after trying on several pairs, he finally found the ones he loved. They were a cool blue with a sturdy design—perfect for a kid who loves to run around and play. The children’s optometrist assured us that these frames were not only stylish but also built to last.

Once the frames were chosen, the next step was to ensure the lenses were just right. The optometrist took careful measurements to make sure the lenses would fit perfectly into the frames and align correctly with Jack’s eyes. They explained to him how important it was for the lenses to be accurate, so he could see clearly at all distances.

While we waited for the final adjustments, Jack and I chatted about how excited he was to show his new glasses to his friends at school. He was no longer nervous—instead, he seemed proud of his choice and eager to wear them. It was such a relief to see him embracing this change with confidence.

When the glasses were finally ready, the optometrist had Jack try them on one last time to ensure everything was perfect. They asked him to look at different distances, read some letters, and make sure the fit was still comfortable. Everything was spot on.

As we left the clinic, Jack was beaming. I could see that he was already starting to feel more confident, knowing that his new glasses would help him see the world more clearly. I was so proud of him for being so brave and for taking this big step in stride.

Driving home, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the wonderful care we had received. I knew that Jack was in good hands and that this was just the beginning of his journey with better vision. And as for Jack, he couldn’t wait to show off his cool new glasses to everyone he knew.
