Bit of a Grip Problem…

The hand sure is a funny thing. All those tendons, and ligaments…maybe ligaments? I don’t know. Not a medical person. Still, it’s really strange how I can do some things, but not others. Like, pushing is no problem. I tried it at the gym last night, and everything involving pushing is just fine. Weighted push-ups, no problem. And if I’m holding something in a reverse grip, I can grip it just fine. Again, barbell, no problem.  But when I try to grip something another way? Can’t even begin to get any decent hold.

So that rules out a bunch of exercises, and…well, I guess I need to start looking around for a reliable tree pruning service in Melbourne. Mum hates gardening and Dad’s away on another business trip, so I said I’d come round on Saturday and trim a few of the trees they’ve got in their front garden. Some are starting to stretch over the garden, so that’s no good. Then I injured my hand at work like an idiot- always wear safety gloves, kids- so now holding a pair of pruning shears is just…nah. That’s exactly what I cannot do. I tried doing some really simple dumbbell hammer curls, and they just fell out of my hands when I turned them upright. An hour of holding shears and trimming excess branches is way out.

Lucky I have my business connections still, so I do know a few really reliable companies that do that kind of thing, and well. Just sucks that I can’t even do a simple thing. I’m not asking to be able to swing around a chainsaw and hack down trees like a real arborist; I just want to hold some shears. Holding anything would be nice. But they don’t know if it’s permanent yet, and…well, anyway. Got to sort through my mates and see if they know some really good, professional tree trimming services. Guess I can rule out THAT potential career.
